George Sylvester Smith

He was born in Leander, Texas on July 4, 1938 to Charlie Clyde and Myrtle Faye Smith. On December 16, 1958 he married Mary Ann McCown. George worked as a mechanic for the Leander Independent School District. He was a member of the Trinity Tabernacle and had a lifelong passion for fishing.

George is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann Smith; and his siblings, Albert Jefferson Smith, twins Johnie Lewis Smith and Georgia Elizabeth Jackson, Annie Charlotte McCown, twins Helen LaFay Maynard and Hazel Margrette Montgomery-McCown, and Archie Clyde Smith.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Hollis Smith and wife Misty; daughter, Kathy Dupnick-Swango and husband Robert; son, Claude Smith and wife Louise, and son, Charles Smith and wife Ranee; his grandchildren, Shannon House, Shane Smith, Ashlee Corn, June Kramer, Jamie Veit, Jessica Patrick, John Deare, Kevin Deare, Cody Smith, Megan Beatty, Sarah Thayer, Casey Smith and Caleb Smith; and his sister, Frankie May Maynard. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown. A funeral service honoring George’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2019 in the funeral home chapel. He will be laid to rest at Bagdad Cemetery in Leander.
