Gary grew up in the Texas panhandle and attended Pampa High School in Pampa, Texas. Upon graduation he joined the US Marine Corps reserves and began his 40 year career in the airline industry. In 1973 he started a life and family in Tucson, Arizona. It was this period of time in a desert canyon overlooking the city, with his wife, young children, and two dogs Karmi and Nickie, that he valued most.
In 1987 the family moved to Houston, Texas where he finished out his career in 2003. He then embarked on a twenty-year golf marathon playing and working at Deerwood Country Club (and later Cimarron Hills Golf Club) to which his son, 35 years younger, never shot a lower score than him.
During this time in Houston, he enjoyed seeing his daughter married, his son obtain a graduate degree, becoming a grandfather, and spending time with his wife. After many road trips to Pampa, Austin, and Dallas, cookouts in the backyard, Cowboys games, and Masters tournaments, he departed this world a man of integrity, honesty, and humor.
He is survived by his wife Diane, son Sean, daughter Danielle, son-in-law Matt, granddaughter Autumn, and brothers Dwight and Rick. He will remain forever in our hearts.
To honor his memory, we are inviting his family, friends, co-workers, and anyone who knew him to attend a gathering at Cimarron Hills golf club driving range to have a beer and hit a ball for Gary and send him off in the way he would have loved. “A beer and a bucket” will be held on June 14, 2024 at 6:30PM.
