Exley was born to Exley C. Mixon Sr. and Atlas (Lightsey) Mixon of Waycross, Georgia on May 28th, 1925.
He entered into marriage with Alma Marie Droll and spent many years with her until her passing at the age of 87 on June 23rd, 2016.
Exley had a host of accomplishments, such as being a well-respected WWII and Vietnam War veteran, as well as being the recipient of a Bronze Star and Legion of Merit.
Other accomplishments include his BS in Chemical Engineering, awarded from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as his MS in Engineering Management, from George Washington University in Washington D.C.
He is survived by his children: Gerald L. (Patricia) Mixon, JoAnn (Charles) Ahlswede, Suzanne (Terrence) Moore, Dennis E. Mixon, Exley C. Mixon III, Timithy M. (Jenifer) Mixon, and his sister, Glendia Carlson Waycross of Georgia.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Exley’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, February 8th, 2024 at 10:00AM at St. Helen Catholic Church, located at 2700 E University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78626.
Burial and military honors will be rendered on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, located at 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542.
