Ernest Pope, 87, of Austin Texas passed away December 7, 2015 as a result of a severe head injury due to a fall in his home. He was surrounded by family at Round Rock Hospital when he passed on to be with the Lord.
Ernest was born in Georgetown, Texas on November 29, 1928 to parents Archie and Edna Pope. He married Estelle Dodson on January 27, 1946.
Ernest was a master carpenter and longtime member of Carpenters Local 1266 in Austin, Texas. He joined the local as an apprentice in 1946. He became a journeyman carpenter and superintendant in a short period of time. At the end of his career he was elected and served two terms as Financial Secretary of Local 1266. His skilled hands have built schools, churches, and buildings large and small in the Austin area from Leander to San Marcos.
Ernest throughout his life had a passion for the outdoors, fishing, hunting, traveling the country with his family, and gardening. He took pride in and received a great deal of joy from working in his yard. He created a scene of beauty with flowers, scrubs and trees. Few days passed when he could not be found tending to his yard with loving care.
Ernest was preceded in death by his mother and father Archie and Edna Pope, son, Kenneth, and brother A.W. Pope Jr.
Ernest is survived by the love of his life, his wife Estelle Pope, son James Pope and his wife Shirley, daughter Jackie Reid and her husband Lawrence, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
