Betty will always be remembered in my heart for being a person willing to step up and do the right thing as her firm convictions dictated. She was there for my kids as Grandma Betty and both her and Mac gave selflessly to my son Julian when he needed extra love and direction. Peace to you Betty as God welcomes you home. Dear Mac please let God wrap his strong arms around you at this sad time. You both will always have a special place in my heart, though I can not be there physically I will keep you in my prayers during this time.

Betty worked for me in the early 1960s when I was just starting the practice of law.  She was an invaluable assistant to me and to the whole office, then called Ely, Guess Rudd and Havelock.  Though our relationship was professional we developed a warm personal friendship as well, fed also by her accent which roughly matched that of my English parents.  I note now that she was three days older than me, her maturity no doubt useful in keeping me in order as I rushed through the practice of law.  In the late 60s I left Betty and the firm to serve as Alaska's Attorney General, and Betty remained as a stalwart in .the renamed office, Ely, Guess and Rudd, still a substantial firm in Anchorage under the name Guess & Rudd, both deceased.  If Bob Ely were here to see this obituary (instead of N.H.), I am sure he would join me in offering condolences to the family for the loss of a lovely lady who must be sorely missed.
