He was born March 30, 1945 in Austin, Texas to Edgar Lee Gadison, Sr. and Azalia Jones Gadison. He was a lifelong resident of Georgetown, Texas.
Edgar graduated Carver High School in Georgetown and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served with distinction. He was a passionate Dallas Cowboys football fan and retired as a master carpenter. During his retirement he also served as a dedicated volunteer with the Georgetown Independent School District. His activities as a volunteer garnered him the honor of being awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award for his service at Carver Elementary School. Those that knew him best will remember him as a deeply spiritual man, faithful friend, and devoted family man who expected the best of others and held himself to that same standard.
Edgar received Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church (Georgetown) where he attended regularly.
Edgar leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife of 46 years, Joyce (Fears) Gadison, son Kevin Rider (Lily), daughters Eugenia Marcel Gadison and Melanie Elaine Gadison Pope (Douglas), and grandsons Justin Gadison, Anthony Robbins, David Houston, Jr., Jamar Pope, Jarvon Pope, and Kevin Rider II, also granddaughter Destamona Rider, and beloved great-grandson Averey Jay Gadison.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jesse Gadison, James Gadison, and Joe Gadison, and sisters Bessie Gadison, Ruth Bell Watkins, and Rosy Lee Gadison.
Edgar is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a generous host of cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 10, in the chapel of Cook Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, 2900 Williams Drive, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The homegoing celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11, at Cook Walden with Rev. Silas Swint of Wesley Chapel A.M.E. church officiating. Interment will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery (Killeen) followed by a repast at Wesley Chapel AMEC Fellowship Hall.
