Our family is sad to announce the passing of Dr. H. Wayne Walker of Killeen, Texas. He passed away at the age of 90 on December 15, 2023. His passing was peaceful with his wife Annie by his side at the Family Tree Assisted Living Center in Round Rock, Texas.
Dr. Walker was born in Dallas, Texas but moved with his parents and sister to Lubbock, Texas where he attended Lubbock High School. He played the clarinet in the high school band and later played for the Going Band from Raiderland at Texas Tech. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech in 1955. Dr. Walker was also an Ordained Baptist Minister. He later attended Creighton University and earned his advanced degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1965.
In 1953 he met the love of a lifetime, Annie. They married and stayed devoted to each other until his final breath.
After graduating, he moved his family back to Lubbock, Texas and began his dental practice while also serving his country in the Airforce Reserves as a 1st Lieutenant and later advanced to the rank of Captain for the 477 Medical Service Flight at Reese Air Force Base. In later years he practiced dentistry in Munday Texas, Dallas Texas and finally Killeen Texas as a civilian dentist at Fort Hood.
In his life he had many personal achievements. Some that he was particularly proud of included earning his Eagle Scout in June 1952, American Endodontic Society Humanitarian Award 1986 and Physician of the Year-Dallas Texas. He was a disaster services volunteer for the American Red Cross in Munday, Dallas and Killeen. On November 12, 2007, he was certified as a Master Mason in good standing for 25 years or more with the Duck Creek Lodge #1419.
His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, photography and in his retirement years, he together with his wife he created beautiful works of embroidery and quilting.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He would go to the ends of the Earth to meet their needs at any time. He was generous to others in need and felt a strong calling to serve others. He was a deeply spiritual man who accepted Jesus Christ as his savior as a youth and followed the teachings of Jesus all throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Annie of 70 years (his daughter Linda Foster (David), his grandchildren Nick Foster (Jasmine), Susan Garza (Edgar), Mark Foster (Jenni), Catherine Foster (Michael), Kimberly Bates (Shawn), and Wayne Foster (Katherine), and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Howard and Thelma Walker, and his son Dr. David Walker.
