With family members at her bedside, Dorothea Marita King, age 90, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of November 6, 2016 after a recent surgical procedure. A longtime resident of Sun City in Georgetown, Texas, she is survived by her 5 children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren and their spouses, 21 great-grandchildren.
Born on September 3, 1926 to Francis and Helen Cantwell, Dorothea was raised in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with her two sisters, Eleanor and Joan. She attended St. John the Baptist parochial high school where she graduated with top honors, but more importantly, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Patrick King. They were married in 1947 after he served a tour of duty on the Pacific front during World War II. In addition to raising their 5 children, Dot and Joe enjoyed an active family life including travel and many work-related relocations throughout the years, even to faraway France and Germany, until his death in August 2005.
Dot nourished everyone she met over her many years with her love of family, her faith in her church, her warm hospitality and a smile that could light up any room. She organized and hosted many family reunions and was a solid contributor to the vibrant social life of Sun City, be it potluck dinners, wine tasting club, Mahjong group, and dance and exercise gatherings.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the church, Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, would be appreciated.
Arrangements for a memorial Mass at Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Andice, Texas, are being planned through Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas.
