Dennis was born in Jamestown, North Dakota to Esther (Nordeen) and Ivyle Walter on July 18, 1937. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating with the Class of 1959. Dennis was commissioned and his first assignment was with the 5th Battalion, 92nd Artillery. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from USC in 1966 then served with the 1st Battalion, 77th Artillery, in Viet Nam. He was then assigned to the ES&GS Department at West Point where he served from 1967 to 1970, and thereafter he held several Finance and Accounting Officer assignments in Germany, at Ft. Bragg, and with the 4th Division at Ft. Carson. He obtained his MBA from the University of Utah in 1977 and retired as a LTC in 1981. He loved sports and played baseball into college; he so enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play, too. In his later years, he enjoyed playing golf and spent many hours on the Sun City courses with friends.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Yvette; his two sons, Wayne (Donna) and Philip W. (Kristie); grandchildren, Philip, Jonathan, Trey, Lauren, and Carleigh; as well as 4 great grandchildren. He was devoted to his family and will be deeply missed.
The family will gather with friends and relatives at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas on Wednesday, December 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Dennis will be laid to rest Thursday, December 5th, 9:00 a.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 SH-195, Killeen, TX 76542.
