When David was young, his Grandfather (he called Dad) took him to his Methodist church. David accepted Christ as his Savior as he grew older. David read the Bible 8 times, and then we lost count.
David was born in Junction, Texas, on March 1, 1942, to Jim and Alva Adams. He was a graduate of Georgetown High School, where he played football, basketball and track. He played QB and threw the first touchdown in the brand new Georgetown Birkelbach football stadium.
On July 15, 1961, David married Elma Dorothy (Dottie) Perrin of Hutto. David was 19 and Dottie was 16 (almost 17) when they eloped to Mexico and returned home all in one day. They told their parents 1 ½ months later. They have been married for 63 years.
David took early retirement from the Department of Public Safety in Austin in 1995 after 27 years of service. He was a charter member of the Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas. His passions were fishing, basketball, softball, Baylor football, and writing poems. Dottie compiled his poems in a book for our family. He wrote poems about his friends, family and his Heavenly Father. He also coached his boys’ little league sports as well as church league sports through Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
David was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1990. He was very athletic and continued to play full court basketball until Parkinson’s did not allow him to stand unassisted. He was a fighter and outlived the doctor’s predictions by many years.
David is survived by his wife, Dottie Adams; sons David Mark (Mandy) of Adkins; Shannon Dale of Austin; Stephen Glenn (Ericka) of Pflugerville; and his brother Gary Adams of Birmingham, Alabama. David and his brother loved competing in all things, cheering for different football teams among other fun things to do.
David adored his grandchildren, Tanette (Alaska), Justin (Texas), Austin, Davis, Christian, (Texas); Corinne (New York), Aubrey, Julia, Olivia (Texas), Madison Marie (Texas). He was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren: Ashley, Kyle, Kodi-Alan Stephens (Alaska) and Hallie, Justin Mark, and Keira (Texas).
David is preceded in death by his father and mother, Jim and Alva Adams, Grandparents Charles and Ann Osborn of Georgetown, and his precious granddaughter Madison Marie Adams.
A visitation for David will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628. A funeral service will occur Friday, March 28, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Hutto City Cemetery, 100 Co Rd 135, Hutto, Texas 78634.
