Claud Malcolm Carter

Malcolm was born in Houston, Texas on July 28, 1940 to parents, Claud C. Carter and Marjorie “Peg” (Zachary) Carter. After graduating from San Jacinto High School in Houston (Class of 1958), Malcolm went on to attend Texas Tech University where he majored in Mechanical Engineering, prior to joining the United States Army in May of 1962. While he was enlisted, he was stationed at Fort Devins, in Massachusetts, where he was trained as a cryptologist/code-breaker.

Malcolm received his Honorable Discharge from the armed forces in February of 1968, before beginning his career as a “Senior Systems Analyst” with the NASA contracted “UNISYS” Corporation. As a leader in his field, Malcolm helped to write, and “de-bug” many of the training programs used by some of the United States' very first astronauts. Everything from the original Gemini missions, to the infamous Apollo missions, all the way to the “Skylab” project, Malcolm had a hand in helping to train the very best of the best. He stayed with NASA for just over 28 years before retiring at only 54 years old.

During his younger life Malcolm was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, and earned his Eagle-Scout badge at the age of 17. He then went on to be a “Troop Leader” for many more years. He remained an avid outdoors-man later in life, and would regularly take his young family on tubing and camping trips all over the great state of Texas. Malcolm was a very involved father to his 2 boys, and coached everything from swim teams, and little league football teams, to little league baseball teams as they grew up. He was truly an amazing father and role model.

Malcolm met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Hughes, in August of 1965. They were married in December of 1967, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just a few months before his passing. They moved to Georgetown, Texas, in July of 2008, where they have lived for the last 10 years.

Malcolm is now gone, but his memory will never be forgotten by the countless lives he has touched. He is revered, and forever loved and appreciated by his family: wife, Barbara Jean Carter of Georgetown, Texas; sons, Michael Carter and Afton W. Carter and wife Rochelle A. Carter; grandsons, Austin Carter, Callan Carter, and Alec Carter.

Malcolm was preceded in death by his parents, Claud Callan Carter, and Marjorie “Peg” (Zachary) Carter.

Per his wishes, there will be no formal services, but those that were fortunate enough to know him, will forever have a place in their heart for his memory. He will be missed more than words can express.
