Betty Lee Pope was born December 8, 1934 in Raymondsville, Texas, the daughter of Alvie and Rosie Mae (McGehee) Moore. She passed from this life January 21, 2021 in Round Rock, Texas at the age of 86. Betty had lived in the Central Texas area most of her life. She worked as a business owner at a very young age, owning a restaurant in Austin in the 1960's. She married J.W. Pope on May 1, 1971 in Coupland, Texas and together they owned and operated Pope's Feed Store, Pope's Barbeque and another business in Leander, Texas. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening her rose bushes, travelling on family vacations, including trips to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and other National Historic places. She loved to cook big meals for her family, especially at the holidays and she loved her coffee. She was proud to be of Cherokee decent. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Betsy Pope; granddaughter, Tisha Williams; siblings, Alvie, Oliver, Pearl and Vera. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, J.W. Pope of the home; children, Debbie Galliher of Lakeway, Texas, Lynn Nelson of Leander, Texas, Fran Sessler (Jeff) of Liberty Hill, Texas, Bill Nelson (Zona) of Georgetown, Texas, Jayleen Lloyd (David) of Bertram, Texas; grandchildren,, Ashton Pope (who she raised), Amy Nelson, Kevin Cosper, Talina Sessler Barker, Joe Sessler, Wendy Nelson, Nicole Autry, Tyler Smola, David and Blayne Lloyd 14 great-grandchildren; lifelong friends, Darlene Blackburn of Bastrop, Texas, Mary Simonetti of Ocala, Florida and Nadeen Moore of Leander, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 25, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bagdad Cemetery in Leander.
