William R. “Bill” Spargo, age 94, of Gastonia passed away peacefully on May 18 surrounded by family. Bill was the son of Ernest M. Spargo and Viola S Spargo of Gastonia and brother to Christine S. Lynn. Preceding him in death was his wife of 67 years Mable T. Spargo and son Steven T. Spargo.
Left to cherish his memory is son Scott Spargo and wife Robin of Gastonia, grandson Jeff Spargo and wife Ashley and great granddaughters Grayson and Tessa of Lincolnton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was a veteran of the US Navy submarine service aboard the USS Flying Fish. A retired member of the US Postal Service, Bill was a letter carrier for 35 years and also served as an officer in the NALC. Bill was a member of Covenant Baptist Church in Gastonia.
Service will be at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, in Gastonia on Wednesday May 24, 2023. Visitation is at 1pm with service at 2pm and graveside to follow.
