William “David” Fields, Jr., 66 of Kings Mountain passed away peacefully on Monday November 7, 2022 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. David was as kind man and he would help anyone he could. He cooked supper every night for his wife. He enjoyed knives, fishing and his animals. He would tell jokes and he liked to cut up. He was close to his cats and his dog, “Joe Joe.” David grew a big garden every year and he ended up giving away most of what he grew. He tried to sell his produce and some crafts he made, such as a life sized Tin Man, but he was a poor businessman and he ended up giving away almost everything. He was committed to his family, even checking on his extended family regularly. David will be missed by his family, neighbors, friends and all that knew and loved him.
David is the son of the late Jean (Crowder) Fields and William David Fields, Sr. His son, Roger Smith, his sister, Debbie Fields and brothers, Terry Fields and Joe Fields precede him in death. A grandson, Cory Smith has also gone on before David.
David leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Carol (Rogers) Field and his sons Michael Smith and James Smith and his wife Monica. Missing their grandfather are his grandchildren, Jake Bridges, Christopher Smith, Jonathan Smith, Chelsea Hayes, Nathan Smith and Noah Smith. David’s legacy includes five great-grandchildren, Emma Hayes, Atlas Hayes, Malina Smith, Zander Smith and Azari Smith. His brothers, Tony Cable, Jeff Cable and Jimmy Cable are also survivors.
A service celebrating David’s life will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. Reverend Roger Overton will officiate offering words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember David.
