Willena (Barnes) Hunsinger, 86, of Supply, NC went to her heavenly home on Saturday November 19, 2022. Willena was a committed Christian and she was most recently an active member of Sharon UMC in Supply. When she lived in Gastonia, she attended Olny Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Professionally, she was the Deli Manager at Winn Dixie. She enjoyed fishing and had multiple certificates for catching large fish. She was a good old-fashioned Southern cook. Her family remembers her Chicken Casserole, her Oyster Stew and her Chocolate Cake. She would always make her son, Scott, a Cherry Cheesecake for his birthday. Many will miss her.
Willena is the daughter of the late Allie (McCarter) Barnes and William Barnes. Her husband, Melvin LeRoy Hunsinger, Jr. and her daughter Robyn Hill have also preceded her in death. Her sister-in-law, Claudia Barnes, has also gone on before her.
Willena is survived by her daughter, Kim Tuttle and her sons, Scott Hunsinger and his wife Margaret and Melvin Hunsinger III. Missing their grandmother are her grandchildren, Allie Hunsinger, Timothy Lewis and James Tuttle. Her brother, Lanny Barnes, Sr., is also a survivor.
A service celebrating Willena’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 10:00 am. Reverend Dr. Greg Gordon will officiate and offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Willena. Her pallbearers are Timothy Lewis, James Tuttle, Lanny Barnes and William Barnes. Burial will follow in The Garden of Devotion at Gaston Memorial Park.
