Victor “Roger” Helton, 76, of Mooresville, and formerly of Belmont, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday March 31, 2017. Roger did volunteer work for the American Red Cross and the Belmont Historical Society. He was a devoted servant at The First Baptist Church in Belmont. He served as a deacon and he worked the sound system at the church for over 20 years. He was a dedicated worker with Bell South. He loved his family most of all. He will be greatly missed by many.
Roger is the son of the late Jean Hyde Helton and Victor Franklin Helton. Also preceding Roger in death is one daughter Vicky Helton.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 47 years, Brenda Mitchem Helton. Also remembering their father are his children; Heather Mann and husband Daniel, Chris Helton and wife Nancy Dunn and Kevin Helton. Missing their grandfather are four grandchildren; Ben, Hannah, Caroline and Carter.
A Celebration of Life for Roger will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. Pastor Dr. Brandon Mc Koy will offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends who gather to remember Roger.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday April 4, 2017 at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia.
Graveside and interment, with full military honors, will be held following the services in The Garden of the Apostles at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Roger’s name to The Belmont Historical Society, 40 Catawba Street, Belmont, North Carolina 28012.
