Born in St. Georges Island, Maryland, he was a son of the late James Bishop Stephens and Helen Hodgkins Stephens. Mr. Stephens proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force having served in Korea and Vietnam before his retirement following 20 years of service. He also retired from Murata Machinery USA, Inc. and was a member of Belmont First United Methodist Church. He was an avid reader, a history and trivia buff, and loved to travel.
Mr. Stephens is survived by eight children, Evelyn Hunt, Keith Stephens (Debbie Hyman), Teresa Moose, Susan Clements (Ronnie), James Stephens, Mary Gordon (Steve), Mike Stephens (Liz), and Charles Stephens (Sharon); 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, John Stephens and James Stephens; and a sister, Mary Andrews. He was predeceased by two brothers; two sisters; and two sons-in-law, Gary Hunt and David Moose.
A private funeral service will be held by the family on Saturday, February 6, 2021. The service will be live-streamed at www.fumcbelmont.com/live beginning at 1:00 PM. A committal service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors.
