Shirley Temple Riggan Cooper, 78, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas. She was born September 1, 1936 in Dobson, NC to the late Columbus and Velna (Mounce) Riggan. Shirley was a past Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star, volunteer with the Red Cross, past PTA president, substitute teacher for the Gaston County schools and worked with the Board of Elections.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 56 years, David E. Cooper, Jr.; children, David E. Cooper III, Steven Cooper (Kim), Amber Blackwood (Scott), Chris Cooper (Kathy), Brian Cooper (Toni), Heather C. Hinson (Fred), Star C. Smith (Eric); grandchildren, Freddie Cooper, Ashley Cooper, David William Cooper, Jacob Cooper, Zachary Cooper, Samantha Tate, Cati Tate, Ryan Cooper, Kevin Cooper, Lee Cooper, Nick Cooper, Matt Cooper, Alex Magnusson, Brae Cooper, Evan Cooper, Garnet Hinson, Sarah Hinson and Tori Hinson; five great-grandchildren; sister, Shelby Martin.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Wade Riggan, John Thomas “J.T.” Riggan and Franklin “Pop” Riggan.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am -12:00pm on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at East Baptist Church in Gastonia.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00pm at the church. Pastor Tim Parker will preside. Burial will follow at Riggan Family Cemetery in Dobson, NC.
