Proud to be an American… Proud to serve his Country….These words best exemplify Samuel Harold Horn who passed away on Monday, September 7, 2015 at the age of 90. A WWII United States Navy Veteran, Samuel left behind a plethora of documented stories he shared intimately with his close family. He also was one of the eleven children in his family to serve honorably in our military. To include his two sons and grandson that followed the example he set.
Samuel was a part of the Cape Canaveral (Kennedy Space Center) program 1960-1969 when it was being formed and making a part of history. He made a positive difference in his life.
He was the son of the late Luther Samuel Horn and Nannie Glenn Horn. He is also preceded in death by his faithful and loving wife Evelyn Huffstetler Horn to whom he was married to for 66 years and died seven years to the day of his death, September 7, 2008. His grandson: Daniel Overcash, one sister and four brothers have gone on before him too.
Those left behind to cherish his memories with pride are his two sons: Dean Horn and wife Shann, Samuel Horn and wife Gail all of Gastonia, North Carolina; three sisters: Elsie Williiamson, Barbara Horn both of Lowell and Cheryl Caskey of Rock Hill; two brothers: Terry Horn of Walton, Indiana along with George Horne of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral ceremony for Samuel with be conducted at 12:00 pm Thursday, September 10. 2015 in the Chapel at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina with Reverend Ivan Davis to officiate. Pallbearers will be Shaun Horn, Tyler Horn, Eric Horn, Michael Overcash, TJ Sutton and Travis Reyes. Military honors will be delivered by the Gaston County Honor Guard and the US Navy following the service.
Mr. Horn’s family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Thursday prior to the service.
