Perry “Bill” Flynn, 95, of Lake Wylie, and formerly of Gastonia, passed away peacefully on Friday December 11, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was under the care of Providence Care Hospice when he passed. Bill was born in Franklin County Georgia on December 16, 1924 to the late Geneva Ouida (Cameron) and Romey Flynn. Bill was part of America’s Greatest Generation and he proudly served his county in the United States Army during World War II. Bill was awarded an American Theater Service Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star, a Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal while in the Army. Professionally, Bill was a home builder, having built well over 100 homes in East Gastonia. He was a devoted Christian and family man, always putting his family first. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Bonnie (Flynn) Queen.
Left to cherish their memories of Bill, and to carry on his legacy, are his wife of over 74 year, Betty Jane (Porch) Flynn of the home and daughter Debbie (Flynn) Braddy and her husband Scott and sons Greg Flynn and his wife Joy and Bruce Flynn and his wife Janet. Grieving the loss of their grandfather are grandchildren, Michelle Sessoms and her husband Shawn, Michael Flynn and his wife Ginger, Amanda Kendrick, Daniel Flynn, Shannon Widener and her husband Dirk and Wayne Oakley and his wife Gretchen. Bill’s legacy includes 11 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Bill’s life is planned at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. For those wishing to pay their final respects to Bill, he will lie in repose, beginning at 9:00 am, on the day of the service.
Burial with full military honors accorded by the United States Army and the Gaston County Honor Guard will immediately follow the Celebration of Life Service in the War Memorial Garden at Gaston Memorial Park. Reverends Bob Bodenhamer and Ronnie Bowers, of Flint Groves Baptist Church, will offer words on encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Bill. Serving as pallbearers are Greg Flynn, Scott Braddy, Michael Flynn, Daniel Flynn, Wayne Oakley and Hunter Flynn.
