Nancy (Killian) Gibson, 89, of Gastonia went to her heavenly home in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas. Nancy was one day short of her 90th birthday. She was born April 5, 1933 in Gastonia. She was a life-long resident of Gastonia. Nancy was a devout Christian and church came first. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was five and she was baptized when she was 13. She believed tithing was very important and she tithed regularly from the time she had her first job. She was a long time member of Cramer Memorial United Methodist Church. She also supported a number of TV ministries through her prayers and financial support. Professionally, she worked at Sears and Belk’s where she was in charge of the Bridal Registry. She also worked at BB&T Bank before she retired. Nancy had a passion for landscaping. She loved nothing more than working in her yard. Nancy was a beautiful woman, inside and out, and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Nancy is the daughter of the late Nell (Smith) Killian and Grady Edward Killian. Her husband, Douglas Newton Gibson, preceded her in death in 1997. Three of her siblings have gone on before her including her sisters, Frances (Killian) Davis and Dorothy (Killian) Lee and her brother, Arnold Killian.
Left to cherish their memories of Nancy, and to carry on her legacy, are her daughter, Cheryl (Barker) Locklear and her husband Joe and her son, William “Butch” Edward Barker, Jr. and his wife Shirley. Nancy had three beloved grandchildren that she enjoyed spending time with and teaching them about the Bible - Lauren Helms and her husband Garrett, Matt Locklear and his wife Dana and Chelsea Locklear. In addition to her grandchildren, she had four precious great-grandchildren, Vayla, Van, Jacob and Ariah, who she was fortunate to love and watch grow as the fourth generation of her family. Nancy also leaves behind her sister, Carol (Killian) Berry.
A service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday April 15, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow the Celebration of Life Service at Gaston Memorial Park. Pastor Danny Elmore will officiate and offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Nancy.
