.Mary Sue Morgan Ballard, age 74, of Gastonia, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. She was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late William. G. and Cordie Morgan.
Mrs. Ballard was former Family Service Director for York County, South Carolina. She sang professionally with “The Hamptons” of Blacksburg, South Carolina and also was an author of “Ashes to Ivory”. Mr. and Mrs. Ballard, in their spare time, sold Real Estate. She attended Bible Baptist Church in Gastonia.
Mrs. Ballard is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank Junior Ballard; one daughter, Mary Sigmon and husband Greg of Gastonia; one son, Tim Ballard of Gastonia; one granddaughter, Chandler Sigmon of Gastonia; one great granddaughter, Kyndall Bridges of Gastonia; four sisters, Geraldine Moran of Danville, Virginia, Diane Sams and husband Bill of Clover, South Carolina, Gilda Warlick and husband James of York, South Carolina, Pat Yancey and husband Doug of Lake Wiley, South Carolina; three brothers, Kenneth Morgan and wife Evangeline, Charles Morgan and wife Sally of York, South Carolina, Lionel Morgan of Clover, South Carolina.
The family will have a private graveside service Friday morning with Pastor Vernon Mullinax officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. Friday at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia and at other times will be at the home of Mary and Greg Sigmon, 2597 Holly Oaks Lane, Gastonia.
Mrs. Ballard was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Brittany Leigh Bridges.
