Mary Ellen Proctor

Mary Ellen (Shultz) Proctor, 80, of McAdenville passed away at her home on Sunday, January 29. Mary was born and raised in Barker’s Creek, in Western North Carolina, where her passion and love for the mountains and community will always be remembered. Throughout life, Mary was known for her kindness, generosity, and her unwavering faith. She was devoted to her family, always putting the needs of others above her own. Mary was a devoted partner to Wayne Baxley of Newton, North Carolina, and a best friend to many who knew her. Mary enjoyed traveling, floral design, and dancing the Paul Jones.

Mary Ellen was the daughter of the late Ellen (Davis) Shultz and Isaac Shultz. Proceeding her in death are Garry Proctor (spouse), sisters Geneva Bradley and Ruth Green and brother Billy Ray Shultz. She was a devoted mother to three children, Angie (Clark) Wetherell and her husband Chris, Melissa (Clark) Howell and her husband David, and Keith Clark and his wife Melissa (Wallace) Clark. Mary leaves behind nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and her sister Marjorie Frady and brother Charles Shultz.

A Celebration of Life for Mary will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday February 4, 2023 in the Dogwood Room of Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia.
