A devoted lady who spent her life serving others best describes Mary Eleanor Haynes Jones, 90 who went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 21, 2017. She was born November 29, 1926 in Polk County to the late David and Dolly (McKelvey) Haynes. Eleanor loved the Lord and read through her Bible at least 20 times during her lifetime. She was a devout Christian who loved her church and enjoyed serving at the Baptist Association. Eleanor loved to garden, listen to gospel music and will always be remembered by her family as “a jack of all trades”. She was special and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Eleanor leaves behind to cherish her memory three daughters, Jennifer Jacobs and husband, Larry of Gastonia, NC, Gail Riley and husband, Tom of Kings Mountain, NC, and Myra Lamberth of Kings Mountain, NC; seven grandchildren, Brian Riley, Ashley Riley Duckworth, Jason Riley, Daniel Riley, Mary Riley Clark, Scott McRainey and Anne McRainey Odom; twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Gaither Jones and one brother, Harold Haynes.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday, April 24. 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Gastonia. Reverend Doug Cooper will preside. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
