Martha Rollins, age 97, died on Wednesday March 16, 2022 in Gastonia, NC at Brookdale Assisted Living, her home for the last five years. Martha Priscilla Bradley was born February 8, 1925 in Atlanta, GA. She grew up in Gastonia, NC and graduated from Ashley High School. Martha’s life was centered on family, friendship and community. Soon after her marriage to Bud Rollins in November 1945, they settled in Cramerton, NC. She remained a lifelong Cramertonian. Nurturing three children, she was immersed in Cramerton School activities throughout the fifties and sixties.
The Presbyterian Church of Cramerton became an anchor for Martha and Bud. Many lasting friendships were formed there. Martha’s children remember many visits to a large and cherished extended family.
Martha enjoyed a full and productive work life. She was an accomplished secretary and bookkeeper in the textile industry. Later, and for many years, she was Cramerton’s 'Avon Lady’. To begin her retirement, Martha earned an Associate Degree from Gaston College. Fabric arts (counted cross-stitch, embroidery, crochet, and knitting) filled many hours and provided many treasured gifts to friends and family. She had a job even into retirement: that ‘job’ was special driver to those family and friends who could no longer drive themselves. She continued throughout her life to cherish her family and enjoy her friends.
New, important friendships with residents and staff were created when Martha moved to assisted living.
The many friends and family of Martha Rollins rejoice in her life and mourn her passing.
Martha’s mother was Ethel Kluttz. Her husband, Spaulding Fisher ‘Bud’ Rollins died April 15, 1996.
