Mabel Hoke Nolen, age 99, of Covenant Village, Gastonia, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Covenant Village. Mrs. Nolen was born in Gaston County and was the daughter of the late George Robert and Lottie Hope Hoke.
Mrs. Nolen graduated from Gastonia High School, attended Lenoir-Rhyne College, was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Gastonia where she was very involved in the Women of the Church and the Senior Choir.
Even though she and her late husband, didn’t have any children, they were deeply committed to the support of the Baptist Children’s Orphanage in Thomasville. The Administrative Building was named in their honor. Also, they were very supportative of ministerial students at Gardner-Webb University.
Mrs. Nolen is survived by one brother-in-law: Herman Nolen and wife Dot of Gastonia; special cousin: Frances Petty of Gastonia; two nephews: Bill Nolen and wife Martha Ann, Gene Nolen and wife Linda of Gastonia; one niece: Martha Beasley and husband Marvin of Gastonia; two great nieces: Pam Nolen and husband Jim Wyatt of Gastonia, Mary Faith Moxham and husband Frank of Lincolnton.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 P. M. to 2:00 P. M. Wednesday in the Living Room of Covenant Village, 1351 Robinwood Road, Gastonia.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday in the Chapel of Covenant Village with Dr. Ray Ammons officiating.
Interment will follow the Memorial Service at Gaston Memorial Park.
Mrs. Nolen was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 69 years, William “Red” Nolen; one brother: C. L. Hoke; one sister: Mary Digh.
