Loyde Earl Black, 97, of Gastonia passed away peacefully on Monday February 22, 2021 at Terrace Ridge in Gastonia. Loyde was a strong family man and a man of faith. He was a deacon, and elder at his home church – Linden ARP Presbyterian Church. He was so respected by his church he was designated as an Elder Emeritus. His faith guided all his life decisions. Loyde proudly served his country in The United States Army in World War II. Loyde was the owner and operator of R.O.’s Barbeque. He managed the daily operations of the restaurant until he was 92 years old. He was committed to his family, faith and his work. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Loyde is preceded in death by his son, Doug Black, his parents, Pearl (Sellers) and Robert Osy Black and his sister, Ruth (Black) Hoffman.
Left to cherish their memories of Loyde and to carry on his legacy are his loving wife, of 70 years, Mary (Stewart) Black and son Robert Black. Missing their grandfather are his four grandchildren – Matt Black, Philip Black and his wife Jessica, Brian Black and Lance Black. Loyde leaves behind five great-grandchildren.
A private committal service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday March 2, 2021 at The Mausoleum of Peace at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. Pastor Mike Lineberger, of Linden ARP Church, will officiate the committal.
