Larry Dean Arms

Larry Dean Arms, 68 of Belmont passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 25, 2023 while hospitalized at CaroMont in Gastonia. Larry is the son of the late Joyce (Chitwood) Arms and Robert Arms. Larry was born in Gastonia and was a lifelong resident of Gaston County. Larry was a good daddy. His family says that he was a good son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. You usually saw Larry walking around with a cup in his hands. He was mechanically gifted and he could fix everything. He enjoyed rebuilding small motors. He worked on motorcycles and lawnmowers. He enjoyed being outdoors and fishing. Many will miss him.

In addition to his parents, his sister Nita Gehing and his brother Ronnie Arms precede Larry in death. His brother in law, Rudy Gilbert, his niece Maryland Arms and three of his nephews, Rusty Gilbert, Jeffrey Gilbert and Kurt Lewis have also gone on before him.

Left to cherish their memories and to carry on his legacy are his wife of 47 years, Beverly (Morton) Arms and his two sons, Travis Arms and Cliff Arms. Missing his Poppy is his grandson, Cameron Arms. Larry also leaves behind his sister, Deborah Gilbert. Larry was fortunate to have “bonus sons” who are as close as his own children. He leaves behind Alan Carpenter and his wife Lindsay and their children Iris and Jasper, Darren Peterson and his wife Jessica and their son, Wyatt and Troy Morton and his wife Brittany.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday October 30, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home. Burial, at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont, will immediately follow the celebration of life service. Reverend Scott Hardin will officiate. His pallbearers are Chad Rumfelt, Brad Rumfelt, Timothy Morton, Alan Carpenter, Darrin Peterson and Steve Mumpower. Jasper Carpenter is an honorary pallbearer.
