Karl “Stretch” Haynes, 58, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 16, 2012. He was born October 9, 1953 in Augusta, GA but lived most of his life in Charlotte. He served his country with pride for 4 years in the U.S. Army. Karl was a retired Police Officer with 30 years of service with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Karl also enjoyed playing golf and riding his Gold Wing motorcycle and had served as president of the Blue Knights N.C. III.
Karl is survived by his wife of 5 years, Ann Pound Haynes of Dallas, NC; 2 children, Veronica Haynes of Richmond, VA, Brandon Haynes of Charlotte, NC; 3 step-daughters, Melissa Nichols, Jennifer Migkos and Brittany Nichols all of Huntersville, NC; mother, Marcilyn Beam Haynes of Dallas, brother, Jack Haynes Jr. of Belmont, NC; 4 grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his father, Jack Haynes Sr. and sister, Karen Haynes Dark.
A celebration of Karl’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. Pastor Earl Pennell will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church.
