John Thomas Allan, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed on to his heavenly home Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the age of 36 after a long and courageous battle with muscular dystrophy. He will be fondly remembered for his unwavering faith in God, his deep devotion to family, and his passion for reading, writing, gaming and of course, chocolate.
A true lover of knowledge, John’s passion for learning was infectious. He was an avid reader, devouring books of various genres, and a talented writer, spinning tales of adventure and imagination. His insatiable curiosity fueled meaningful conversations and enriched the lives of everyone he engaged with.
Gaming was not just a hobby for John; it was a passion that brought him joy and camaraderie. As a founding member of the Christian tabletop RPG group “Saga Society,” he forged a community of like-minded individuals from many walks of life who found friendship and support in one another.
John’s devotion to God, and love for his family were indelible. His faith guided him, offering solace and strength during difficult times. He exemplified Christ’s teachings of love, compassion and forgiveness. His wit and infectious laughter could brighten the darkest of days, and his unique ability to find humor in life’s simplest moments, reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.
John is survived by John is survived by his mother, Theresa “Starr” (Lutz) Allan and his father, Dr. James Thomas Allan and his wife, Dr. Cathy Lovette. Sister, Jennifer Martin and her husband Mike and their children, Aiden Martin and Bella Martin and his brother, Caleb Martin, and his wife Melissa and their daughters Kendall Martin, Alexis Plyler and her husband Collin and their child Ford Plyler, Tori Major and son, Graham Martin, are all grieving the passing of John.
In addition, John leaves behind his two aunts and their families. His aunt, Diane Merck and her husband Bobby and their children Brian Merck and his wife Teressa and their sons, Keaton Merck and Carter Merck and their son Tim Merck and his wife Lindsay and their children Alex Merck and Isabella Merck and his second aunt, Elaine Cleveland and her husband John, and their daughter, Kacee Cleveland are all also deeply affected by John’s passing.
As we bid farewell to John, we are comforted by the memories of his love, laughter, the profound impact he had on our lives, and a shared faith that we will one day be reunited in the presence of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday July 23, 2023 at Union Road Church, 2315 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina. The family will receive friends one hour before the service beginning at 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will immediately follow the Celebration of Life Service at Gaston Memorial Park. Reverends Lee Claypool and Terry Mull will officiate and offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember John. John's pallbearers are Caleb Martin,Graham Martin, Mike Martin, Aiden Martin, Brian Merck, John Hunter, Collin Plyer and Jacob Wilson.
