Jimmie Fred Barker, Sr., 75, of Dallas went home on April 28, 2015. He was born in Gaston County to the late James and May Barker. Jimmie was a proud veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam and spent five years at the Pentagon. He retired from the City of Gastonia Police Department as Detective. Jimmie was an honorable man who served his family, his community and, most of all, his God. He was a faithful member of the Independent Baptist Tabernacle and a former member of Springfield Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. In addition to his family, he loved his garden and working outdoors.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend, Eva Barker; sons; Jimmie Barker, Jr., Jerry Mason, Scottie Mason and Aaron Mason, daughters; Mary Ann Hudson, Annette Brown, Tina Knox, Geneva Mason, Judy Hoffecker, and Sherry Mason(the Special #7), 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Barker.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Independent Baptist Tabernacle, 2128 Dallas Cherryville Highway in Dallas. Officiating Rev. Ralph Carver,. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
