Mary “Jeanette” Arrowood, 93, of Kings Mountain went to her heavenly home on Tuesday afternoon, March 21, 2023. Jeanette held the Lord’s hand through a long battle with dementia. Her family remembers her as a funny, quick witted Christian Lady. Jeanette was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Belmont. Jeanette was a hard worker and she never wanted anyone to think she might be lazy. Jeanette was a comical redhead and the family often felt that they had their own Lucille Ball. She taught her children to always laugh at themselves. Jeanette lived a long life, but she will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all that knew and loved her.
Jeanette was the daughter of the late John Mitchell Killian and Edna (Hancock) Killian. Also preceding her in death are her infant daughter, Phyllis Anne Arrowood, in 1947 and her beloved husband, Joe Thomas Arrowood, in 2000. Jeanette was married 56 years and she continued to miss Joe until the day she died. Jeanette also lost a son, Larry Dean Arrowood, in 2004.
Left to cherish their memories of Jeanette and to carry on her legacy are her daughter Martha A. Winkles and her husband, Frank, son Danny Joe Arrowood and his wife, Carol. Missing their grandmother are her four grandchildren, Beth A. Roberson (Ronnie), Dawn A. Berckman (Brandon), Julie W. Osburn (Grant), and Jamie W. Wydo (Daniel). Jeanette’s legacy includes seven great-grandchildren: Nicholas Berckman (Haley), Hannah Berckman, Claire Jeanette Osburn, David Franklin Osburn, Jocelyn Caroline Osburn, Franklin Andrew Wydo, and Samuel Thomas Wydo. Her legacy also includes a great-great granddaughter, Sadie James Berckman. Long time family friend, Brenda Arrowood Sigmon, will also cherish her memories of Jeanette.
A Celebration of Life Service will be privately held. Pastor Jan Deans, of Friendship Baptist Church, will officiate and offer words on encouragement and hope to the family. Tommy Owenby will sing and Ann Ewing will accompany him on the piano. Brandon Berckman, Nick Berckman, Grant Osburn, David Osburn, Daniel Wydo, and Franklin Wydo are her pallbearers and 10 year old Samuel Wydo will be an honorary pallbearer.
