Janet attended Mecklenburg Public Schools and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Gardner-Webb University. She married Donald Montgomery on May 31, 1983 after graduating from college.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her younger brother, Tony Cureton.
Janet is survived by her husband, Donald Montgomery of Gastonia; two children, Jennifer Montgomery and Marcus Montgomery both of Gastonia; brother, Ronald Cureton of Charlotte; sisters, Terrie Powell and Evelyn Reed both of Charlotte.
Janet worked as a youth director at Hickory Air Force, a financial secretary at First Baptist Church, and a bookkeeper for Buies & Norman Financial as well as Gardner Machinery Corporation.
Janet always had a passion for helping people. She volunteered and was a board member for Operation Inasmuch, a shelter for the homeless. Janet loved the Lord and attended church on a regular basis. She was an active member of the hymn choir and other ministries at First Baptist Church. Her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32, “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.”
Most of all Janet loved her family and friends. She was a loving and devoted mother. She instilled a little bit of herself in each and every one of us. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
