James “Goodie” Goodman, 86, of Ranlo died peacefully on Monday, March 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Goodie loved his family most of all. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Goodie liked to be busy. He built and raced his own dirt track racecar. He loved baseball and he was a huge Atlanta Braves fan. He used to hunt and fish. Goodie supported his community by being a volunteer firefighter, an EMT and a councilman for Ranlo. Goodie lived his life to the fullest. He will be dearly missed by many.
Goodie was the son of the late Fannie (Lovett) and John Goodman. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mercedee (Bumgardner) Goodman.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Yvonne Crook, Donna Jones and husband Rick and Terry Talley and husband Rabun. Goodie also leaves behind four grandchildren; Shelley, Scott, Ashley and Abby and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Life for Goodie will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday March 15, 2018 at United Baptist Church, 1970 Lowell-Bethesda Road, Gastonia. Reverend Ray Pennell will offer words of encouragement and hope for friends and family who gather to remember Goodie.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. at the church before the celebration of life service.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in Goodie’s name to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
