For a man to serve his country, it is an honor and privilege… Franklin Delano Rowland was that kind of man who served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he served in the Aleutian Islands as a combat engineer to defend our flag for its freedom. Known as a fine young man and one of ten children, Frank was a farmer who loved raising cattle, rabbit hunting, and fishing and was a bee keeper that gave the harvested honey to his family and friends. Frank gave his all in everything he did. He was a cabinet maker by profession and was instrumental in constructing the roof for Catawba Heights Church. To add, Frank was a Free Mason and member of the Mount Holly Masonic Lodge #544 AF&AM.
Frank was the son of the late Andrew Jefferson Rowland and Bertha Bradshaw Rowland. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Elizabeth Rowland, his nine siblings; Robert, AJ, Croft, Cliff, James, Callie, Mildred, Viola and Chloe.
Those left to cherish the memories of Frank are his wife of 63 years, Sylvia Graves Rowland; son and daughter in law: Frank “Dale” and Deborah Rowland of Burke, Virginia; daughter and son in law: Teresa and Perry Johnson of Gastonia, North Carolina; two sisters: Lois Hall and Ruth Revels; grandchildren: Chris Johnson and wife Tiffany, Ethan Johnson and wife Stephanie; great grandchildren: Ellie, Elijah and Savannah Johnson, Amber Rowland.
A Life Well Celebrated Ceremony and committal service with military honors accorded by the Gaston County Honor Guard and United States Army will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in the Singing Tower Garden at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina with Reverend Lonnie Harris to deliver words of comfort to Frank's family and friends.
Frank’s family will greet guest from 1:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina.
