She was born on March 28, 1924 in Gaffney, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Clarence V. Tate and Gertrude Sheppard Tate.
Edna retired from Gaston County Schools and was long-time member of East Garrison Baptist Church where she was active in the children’s activities. As a faithful member, she attended whenever possible.
Even though we will miss her smiling face and hearing her sweet voice, we know she is in a better place.
Edna is survived by her daughter Claudette and husband Gary Watts, Three grandchildren, Keith Watts and his wife Kem, Brian Watts and his wife Deann and Kerry Watson Christian and her husband Shane. Six great-grandchildren, Josh, Alston, Bailey, Logan and Mikayla Watts and Ava Christian, son in law Steve Watson and his wife Darlene She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Burleson and daughter Gale Burleson Watson, sisters Sara Adams, Juanita Canon and Pat Barnes and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday April 21, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. Reverends Randy Wise and Charles Ledford will officiate.
The family wishes to thank Gaston Hospice for the loving and gentle care they gave to Edna.
