Earl Kenneth Brackett, 88, of Gastonia went peacefully to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday March 28, 2023. Earl worked at the Gaston Gazette since he was 13 years old where he eventually ended his career as the advertising director for 23 years. He was active in many community events. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Gastonia. Earl enjoyed bowling, golf and poker and he loved Mickey Mouse. Those who knew him considered him a good man. He leaves many happy memories that will be cherished by his family and friends.
His daughter, Melinda Causey, precedes Earl in death. Earl is the son of the late Lula (Newman) Brackett and Charles A. Brackett. His brothers, Bob, Boyce, Will, Charles, John, and Calvin along with three sisters, Elsie, Annie and Laura, all precede him in death.
Left to cherish their memories of Earl and carry on his legacy are his wife of 62 years, Shirley (Cabe) Brackett of the home and his son, George K. Brackett and his wife, Mary Q. Brackett, of Gastonia. He leaves behind his son-in-law, Robert Causey of Stanley. Missing their grandfather are his grandchildren, Kelsey Causey, Johnny Clark and his wife Emily and Niki Clark. His legacy includes his great-grandchildren, Maylin Cooper and Riley Cooper and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday evening, April 4, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive in Gastonia. A memorial service, celebrating Earl’s life, will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday April 5, 2023 at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia. Reverend Roger Mathis, of Unity Baptist Church in Gastonia, will officiate and offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Earl. A graveside inurnment will follow the celebration of life service in the Evergreen Garden of Gaston Memorial Park. The United States Army will accord Full Military Honors to Earl at the graveside.
