Dorothy “Dot” (Smith) Stroupe, 98, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday July 13, 2021. Dot’s family says that she was a force to be reckoned with. You never knew what she was going to say and she always spoke her mind. She was an extremely hard worker. She did not fully retire until she was 78 years old. She loved her family dearly. She worked for many years as switchboard operator at Gaston Memorial Hospital. After she retired from that she was a patient care assistant. She was witty and funny. Dot’s family has many fond memories of her. She will be dearly missed by many.
Dot is the daughter of the late Sally (Moser) and Lee Smith. Her husband, Winslow “Wink” Francis Stroupe preceded her in death in 1985. She is the last of eight siblings. She is preceded in death by her five sisters and two brothers.
Left to cherish their memories of Dot are her children, daughter Amelia Blalock and her husband Gordon, and sons, Roger Stroupe, Thad Stroupe and his wife Beth and James “Jimmy” Stroupe and his wife Jeanette. Missing their grandmother are her five grandchildren, Kem, Kent, Keith, Kristy and Kelvin. Dots’ legacy includes 10 great-grandchildren; 13 great great-grandchildren and another one to be born soon.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday July 19, 2021 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, in the chapel beginning at 1:00 PM. Pastor Dickie Spargo, of City Church in Gastonia, will officiate.
