She loved to knit, crochet and work in her flowers outside in her gardens… A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother best describes Dorothy Mae Grubbs, age 93, who went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, October 17, 2016 from her home in Cramerton… Dorothy was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and in her younger years she loved to dance. A true homemaker, her gift to herself was going to the beauty shop plus reading her Bible daily. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
Dorothy was the daughter of the late Robert P. Digh and Flora Matheny Digh. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Grubbs. Her two sisters Frances Bowen and infant sister Madge Digh.
Those left to cherish her memories are her three daughters and sons in law: Rachel and Robert Hice of Gastonia, North Carolina, Ponda Thacker of Cramerton, North Carolina, Deborah and Rick Little of Cramerton, North Carolina; one sister: Janellen Hudgins of Gastonia, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
A service celebrating the Life of Dorothy will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2016 in the Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054 with Reverend Rick Cloninger delivering words of comfort to the family and friends. Pallbearers are Barry Hice, Geoff Hice, Todd Hice, Tedd Hice, Ken Caldwell and David Caldwell. Graveside and committal service will follow in the Hillside Garden at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM ~ 3:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be given in Dorothy’s memory to the Gaston Hospice, 258 East Garrison Blvd, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054 or Cramer Memorial United Methodist Church, 154 North Main Street, Cramerton, North Carolina 28032.
A special heartfelt gratitude goes out the Gaston Hospice along with Dorothy’s private caregivers Barbara Adams and Gracie Benjamin for their love and care of their mother.
