Doris Richards

Doris Ford Richards, 80 years old, of Cherryville, NC and formerly of Gastonia, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024. She was the ninth of ten children born to the late Abell and Ruth Nesbit Ford in Lowell, NC on March 8, 1943. Doris graduated from Holbrook High School of Lowell, NC and had a career in Shipping and Receiving. It was always said that she was a dependable and hard worker, only missing a handful of days in over 50 years of work. She always liked to work and said in later years that she would still be working had the company not closed down. She loved spending time with her family and being apart of two lunch groups that met monthly. She was a member of East Baptist Church of Gastonia, NC for over 54 years and told two family members the day before she ready to go on to be with the Lord.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 45 years Fredrick Ernest Richards, three sisters Betty Hill, Geraldine Lutz, and Patricia Walker, and three brothers Robert Ford, Thomas Ford and Samuel Ford.

She was survived by her loving children Donna Richards Jackson and husband, Jeremy and son David Richards and wife Julie, four grandchildren Christopher Cody Richards and fiancée Samantha Green, Garrett Jackson and wife Hannah, Taylor Jackson, and Ty Richards. She had five great grandchildren Lilli, Kylie, Waylon, Gabby, and Madden, two brothers Donald Ford and wife Sheila, and Johnny Ford and one sister Carol Brendle, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday evening March 3, 2024. The visitation will be held at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia North Carolina.

A service celebrating Doris’ life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday March 4, 2024 at Carothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are Christopher "Cody" Richards, Garrett Jackson, Ty Richards, Todd Walker, Todd Ford and Bobby Ford.
