County J. Jay, 85, was a loving family man who enjoyed Baseball and NASCAR. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. County passed away in home in Florida on Monday April 18, 2016.
County was the son of the late Jessie and Lula Huffstickler. He was also preceded in death by two wives; Joy Huffstickler and Iris Jay and a longtime friend Mary Ann Mecca. Also preceding him in death were two sons; Jonathan and David Huffstickler, two sisters and four brothers.
Left to cherish his memories are his son Stephen Huffstickler, of Lincolnton and daughters; Sharon Brown and husband Weyman of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, Jeanne Showalter of Apollo Beach, Florida and Carolyn Huffstickler Cernuto of Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
Also remembering County are his surviving sisters; Marion Rhyne and husband Doug of Gastonia, Florence Broome and husband Richard of Gastonia and Ruth Auten of Gastonia.
County leaves behind 12 grandchildren; Cali Huffstickler, Sean Scurlock, Rorie Scurlock, Dawn Human, Dale Human and wife Kristy Human, Philys Huffstickler, Christie Leslie, David Huffstickler II, Julie Cooper, Emily Cooper, Christopher Lewis and Amy Huffstickler. County also leaves behind his great-grandchildren; Chloe Cooper, Austin Huffstickler, Nick Human, Dylan Human and Nadia Human.
The family wishes to express thanks to Connie Rossignol and Raul Garcia for the care given to their dad.
A celebration of County’s life will be held at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia at 3:00 PM on Thursday April 21, 2016.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM. A committal service will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. The Reverend Matthew Seagle, of Community Baptist Church in Dallas, will officiate the service and offer words of encouragement to County’s family and friends.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hospice of your choice.
