A native of Catawba County, she was the daughter of Robert Edward Bush Sr. and Elizabeth Jeanette Saunders Bush.
Carol graduated from Pfeiffer University with a degree in Christian Education. She served as the Director of Christian Education at Myers Memorial United Methodist in Gastonia, Director of Publications & Information at Gaston Memorial Hospital and most recently as the Public Information Offi-cer/SEQL Outreach Coordinator at Centralina Council of Governments.
An avid volunteer, she dedicated her life to serving the community. Her volunteer work included her church, First United Methodist Church in Gastonia, Gastonia Junior Woman's Club, Woman's Club of Gastonia, General Federation of Women's Clubs of North Carolina, Gastonia Clean City, North Carolina Keep America Beautiful, United Arts Council of Gaston County, Schiele Museum of Natural History and Gastonia All America City Teams in 1997 & 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Edwin Lewis of the home; daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Lewis of Brooklyn, New York; son, Thomas Edward Lewis of Boone; brother, Robert Edward Bush Jr. of Charlotte; sister, Elizabeth Bush Oakley and husband, Richard of Asheville; nephews, Matthew Oak-ley, Parker Oakley and William Oakley, all of Asheville.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Gastonia with the Rev. George Freeman officiating.
Inurnment will be private.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Family Life Center of First United Methodist Church in Gastonia.
