Alice Carolyn Spencer

Hospice House in Dallas, NC. She was the daughter of the late Harley Spencer Redding and Iola Coggins Spencer.

A Mars Hill College and UNCG graduate, Carolyn Spencer completed her Master's Degree at Winthrop University. This master teacher taught Sophomore English and Choral Music at Hunter Huss High School from its opening in 1962 until her retirement in 1994. Carolyn always motivated her students to reach their highest potential, and took tremendous pride and joy in their many successes. She was always available after hours for any special lessons or assistance her students required. Her Concert Choirs' annual Christmas Concerts and "Bluegrass to Broadway" shows were highlights of the Huss school year. In State and local Choral contests the Concert Choirs under her direction were ranked Superior, the highest honor.

A master organizer and outstanding member of both the local and state music community, Carolyn was a founding member, a past president, the recent Publicity Chairman, and an elected Life Member of the Gaston Concert Association.

A master gardener, Carolyn enjoyed growing and sharing her beautiful roses and flowers, as well as being able to admire frequent "Yard of the Month" signs on her meticulously manicured lawn.

An elegant lady in mind, body, and spirit, Carolyn treasured her wonderful family, her canine companions Ginger and Molly, her many friends, her legions of students, and most especially her music, the most important constants in her successful and productive life.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Gene A. Spencer; son Stephen Ryan Spencer and his wife Kuo Hwa Spencer; daughter, Lisa Dawn Spencer; brother Max G. Redding; sister, Oneida R. Gibson and granddaughters, Ashley Kristin Spencer and Allison Ku Spencer.

A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00pm Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Unity Baptist Church with the Reverend Roger Mathis and Mr. Rick Davis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service
