Walter was a life long resident of Alabama. He served our country in the United States Marine Corp during WWII where he participated in action against the enemy forces at Guadalcanal, S.I. and later at Cape Gloucester, New Britain.
Walter was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Mt. Olive First and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a horseman who loved the old west and he was a devoted family man who loved his family dearly.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Era Hatley Jones (passed 1987); his parents, Robert and Verna Jones; his only daughter, Charlotte Ann Martin; five sisters, Nell, Hazel, Edna, Alvie, and Mary.
Walter is survived by two grandsons, Brandon Martin and James D. Martin; three great grandchildren, Elisse Lauter, Kylie Martin, and Patrick Martin; three great-great grandchildren, several extended family members and a multitude of friends who thought the world of him.
Celebration of Life Services for Walter will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL; visitation will begin at 1:00 PM; funeral service at 2:00 PM, followed by his burial at Mount Olive Cemetery, Mount Olive, AL.
