Truly important to Sharon was that she loved to be surrounded by family in the midst of her home or at the many sporting events at local high schools, various ball parks, show choir and Grandparent’s Day at school. Sharon shared her precious smile with her children and grandchildren.
Sharon retired from Sheffield Risk Management Services serving 20 years in the claims department. She will be truly missed by her friends and co-workers at Sheffield. Those blessed to have known Sharon are familiar with her fun-loving mischievous expression of creative wit especially when she watched or attended the Alabama Crimson Tide football games. Interestingly, Sharon had a verifiable ‘built in’ memory of every statistic, memorable play, win-loss ratio, playoff record, injury report, weather conditions, coach biographical info, rules, etc. of not only Alabama football, but of the Atlanta Braves and other professional sport teams.
A long time member of Gardendale First Baptist Church with her husband Carl of 51 years, Sharon was a devout believer in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Redeemer. Sharon was a graduate of Minor High School.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband Carl Thompson, son Stephen (Renae) Thompson, daughter Meredith (Travis) Long, brother Jerry Cornelius, sister Joy (Wesley) Greer, grandchildren Trent Thompson, Bailey Long, Haley Thompson and Callie Long - along with several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents William Cornelius, Sr. and Daisy (Salter) Cornelius and her brother William Cornelius, Jr.
Pastor Bronson Moore of Church of the Highlands will be officiating services with
burial at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
