Richard C. Hicks

Richard Carl Hicks passed away on October 29, 2022 at the age of 69 in the comfort of his home in Gardendale, Alabama. He battled serious health issues over the years but continued to work and persevered courageously though often in great pain. His suffering ended when he met Jesus face to face.

Richard was born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 16, 1953 and although his family moved a lot they returned to their roots in West Blocton, Alabama where he graduated from high school. Throughout high school, he enjoyed being in the band as a very talented trumpet player and later playing football. A few years after graduating he went to work for The Birmingham Water Works where he worked his way up over the years and retired as a superintendent in 2012.

He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Newton Hicks; mother, Maxine Russell Hicks and sister, Denise Hicks Wakefield.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Joan Brittain Hicks; daughters, Christy Hicks Mitchell (Jason) and Melissa Hicks Box (Robert); granddaughter, Lindsey Mitchell; grandsons, Brittain Mitchell and Weston Box; and sister, Susan Bennett.

Richard was a loving husband, father, brother and proud Papa. He will be honored at Ridout’s Chapel, Gardendale, Alabama on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm.
