R.D. Phillips
July 28, 1921 – April 27, 2017
R.D. a resident of Morris, AL, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 surrounded by family. R.D. proudly served our country in the US Navy as a quartermaster during World War II. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
R.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lela Green Phillips; siblings, L.G. Phillips (Vernice), Gilbert Phillips (Joyce), Allen Phillips (Velma), Olean George (Charles), and Ann Redden (Paul).
R.D. is survived by his loving wife Margaret Ellen Ledbetter Phillips “Jackie”, his son, Larry Headrick (Karen); daughters, Velva Tiller (Paul) and Carol Mathews (Walt); siblings, Charles Phillips (Joyce), Marie Phillips Ledbetter, Judy Phillips, Roger Wayne Phillips, Floyd Jr Phillips and Johnny Phillips; grandchildren, Keith Headrick (Mary), Miranda Biggers (Oren), Brett Tiller (Stephanie), Leslie Green (Mike), Dylan Mathews (special friend Mara); great grandchildren, Ellis, E.J., Sadie, Will, Ashley, Grace, and Michael, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Special thanks to Janice Taylor (our loving caretaker). We cherish her love for RD and Jackie. We would also like to thank the staff of Alacare Hospice.
Services will be held at the Hopewell Road Church of God of Prophecy, 8100 Hopewell Road, Bessemer, AL, on Monday, May 1, 2017 with a visitation to begin at 11:00am; funeral service at 12:00pm followed by his burial in the church cemetery with military honors.
