Randy was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born on March 1, 1944, to RB Wiginton and Doris Bowling Wiginton. Randy's parents, along with his younger brother Lynn, made their home in the community of Acipco. It was in Acipco he met the love of his life, Barbara Alexander. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1962, and they both attended Jacksonville State University.
Randy and Barbara were married on Nov. 13, 1964 and had three children, Randal B. (Rusty) Wiginton III (Margaret), Scott Alexander Wiginton (Meleah), and Shannon Faile (Scott). They have seven grandchildren: Emily Wiginton-Booth (Cole), Madison Cornwall (Michael), Maggie Wiginton, Payton Faile, Claire Wiginton, Ella Wiginton, and Britney Crocker (Nick). A devoted father and grandfather, Randy attended every event his granddaughters were involved in. He also had an extended family of nieces and nephews who loved and adored him.
Randy was employed by Bell South as a Lineman and Cable Splicer, retiring after 33 years of service.
Randy's hobbies were many and varied; he was a lifelong outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, hiking, travel, and herbal medicine. He was an experienced traveler and took his entire family on numerous vacations out west; he and Barbara visited all 50 states. He also loved exploring. Once on a single trip, he navigated the Alabama Black Warrior River in his bass boat from Walker County all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. He traversed the Grand Canyon several times, hiking from rim to rim. He also enjoyed church mission trips, which took him across the U.S., from the northeast to the southwest.
A born-again Christian, he was an active member of Enon Baptist Church in Morris, Alabama, where he served for many areas. He loved his family, his friends, and his country, and was loved in return by everyone who met him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Enon Baptist Church Building Fund.
The family will receive friends on Monday March 21st 1:00 until 2:00 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel. Funeral service will commence at 2:00 in the chapel. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
