I worked with Phillip at Sears from 1968 until he retired. I always looked up to him. He was like a father figure at work. If you needed any advise about anything he was there. I also learned a lot from him on the job. I will always remember him.

Due to distance, I never met my Great Uncle Phillip in person, but a few years back I made an effort to call him and "get to know" my grandfather's "little brother".  I will be forever grateful for the effort I made as we continued to speak with each other every few months or so.  He filled in a lot of gaps about our family history that I would have never known without his input.  And from these simple phone calls, I discovered that even though he was almost twice my age, we were kindred spirits; true "kin", and when you come from a family as small as ours, that feeling doesn't come often.  I only knew Uncle Phillip from stories my Maw-Maw told me and from the stories HE told me and the conversations we shared, but I know the most important thing of all, and that is that he BELIEVED!  As sad as any passing can be, I can't help but "toast" my Great Uncle Phillip for a life well lived.  He grew up in tough times, served his country because he knew it was the right thing to do, had a family and made the most of what his Creator provided.  THAT is worthy of admiration.  RIP Great Uncle Phillip.
