Peggy retired from BellSouth and spent her retirement doing things she enjoyed. She loved to shop and read and was involved with the “Red Hat Society” in her community. She was a member of Hughes Memorial Baptist Church and participated in Sunday School and the Quilter’s group that met on Thursdays.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jessie Howard Hughes. Surviving her are three sons, David Howard “Joe” Hughes of Fayette, James Randolph “Randy” Hughes of Warrior, George Thomas Hughes (Kim) of Albertville; four grandchildren, Robert Eric “Robby” Hughes, Randi Nicole Hughes Fluke, Jessica Lara Hughes Paulino (Vinnie) and Kyle Taylor Hughes; two great-grandchildren, Drey Hughes and Aubrey Hughes; a sister, Edna Earl Marsh Harman; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Liberty-Minter Cemetery on Self Creek Road in Kimberly. Rev. Randy Mahaffey and George Hughes will officiate the service.
The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and TLC Nursing Center for their care during the past three weeks.
